Blah to Blue

I've finally finished painting the first dining chair, and I wanted to give a sneak peek. We've had such high temps and humidity here in PA that I decided to bring it inside to the basement.

Here is the before...not bad but I wanted to add some color.

Being this was my first time painting a piece of furniture, I was a bit nervous as to how the finished product would pan out. I consulted a few friends and got some tips from fellow bloggers who I knew had done this before (thanks everyone!) The key was to sand and prime and repeat. Once I had done that twice and got a nice smooth finish, I was ready (and eager) to throw some color on this chair.

My first round of paint didn't really produce the look that I wanted. The paint didn't go on so well and I wasn't really happy with the finish, so I made a stop into Sherwin Williams on a lunch break and they hooked it up! I was so much happier with what they recommended - a high gloss enamel that goes on like a dream.

Take a look at the new and blue dining chair...

Nice and glossy...check out the legs!

Baby got back...

One more...

I'm pleased with the result. What do you think of the blue? This is one in a pair of chairs and then I had gotten an armchair that I thought went well together. Here's the clan waiting to be painted:

Next up is the armchair, because I can't wait to put some new fabric and new paint on that puppy.

Focus focus focus...hopefully I'll be back in a few weeks with updates and not two months. Once all of the chairs are done, hopefully I'll have some pictures of our updated dining room to share as well.

What do you think of my first furniture paint job?

I'm linking this paint project up with Suzy's House Party over at Saved by Suzy. If you haven't been over, check it out to see all kinds of fun projects.

  1. Hooray! It turned out great. I love the pop of color of the blue and the details on the chair are really pretty. Are you doing all of the chairs the same color? I can't wait to see the upholstered chair and the fabric you picked out. Thanks for linking up and for the shout out.

  9. Hi Holly-

I am finally tackling my reader and loved when I saw what you did to chair! Wow-O it came out great. You are so right about the humidty here- does not make it easy to paint, but it came out fabulous.
I hope all is going well for you.
