Sheila's Room

2012 is here and I hope everyone had a wonderful new year celebration.

I've got a bunch of ideas that I want to share with all of you, but today I thought I'd share with you a little bit of Sheila's room.

Because we didn't know whether we were going to have a little boy or a little girl, we decided to paint the room a nice fresh green color. The color we chose is Pear Green by Behr. I slowly added additional items into Sheila's room after her big arrival. You may remember when I added curtains in her room to bring in some more color and to make the room look more girly.

{Goal for 2012: Improve upon my photography and editing skills. I've taken the photo above and enhanced and cropped the photo from my previous post. What a difference it makes!}

This is a wall of artwork (aka wall of treasures) that we had started prior to Sheila's arrival. The family quote sign I had picked up at Homegoods. The small print at the top right corner is by Etsy seller Trafalgar Square and shows a few animals reading with stacks of books around them. Books and reading have always been a fun part of our everyday routine.

When Sheila was an infant, I always used to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to her and she would smile and coo. It was only appropriate that we have this print by Etsy seller The Wheatfield, which is so pretty. I just added the "S" to the wall this morning. I picked it up at Anthropologie last week.

And I really wanted something handmade that I had created to go into the nursery (some may call this nesting), so I made this pear artwork out of scrapbook paper. It's one of my favorite items in Sheila's room.

We spend a lot more time in Sheila's room now that she is a little older, so it's nice to have a fun room full of color to enjoy while we're hanging out in there. Recently, she's even been pointing to a few of the pieces and I'll tell her what they are. Of course I'm already thinking about ideas for her big girl room one day, but plenty of time before we get that started.

I'm looking forward to sharing more projects with you this year and also sharing some more of my goals for 2012. Stay tuned!

  3. Such a cute and fun room Holly. I forgot about the fabric you used on the curtains. It's one of my favorites and now I've got my wheels spinning about where I might be able to use it! "You are my Sunshine" is a special song to me too. My grandpa used to sing it to us all of the time.

  6. It's so pretty Holly. I love the fact that Sheila's room is not the standard pink. It has such character! I look forward to seeing it change through the years.

    One of my goals for 2012, is to update both of my girls' rooms, but especially my oldest. She's closing in on 9 years old and she thinks it's time for that big girl room. Just wait until Sheila's telling you what she wants in her room! Kate has her own pinterest board for her ideas!!

  8. Hi, Holly! So cool to see more of Sheila's room! And I'm psyched you even made a category label for her - yay for famous toddlers;) Love those curtains, that pattern is awesome! Such a great wall of treasures, and that you made something yourself for it is so sweet - those pears are so cute! Yes, better photos is so challenging...I always photoshop the heck out of mine. I've been thinking about investing in a new camera but am intimidated by all the options out there. Talk to you soon:)

  9. Her room has so much personality, I love it. You did such a great job on the cute pear artwork. I love handmade items, they have so much more meaning and are so unique. I'm trying to work on my photography skills too. I love using the program online called picnik for editing. There is a lot you can do with that program.
