Gossip Bench - Part 2

I've made the decision not to paint the gossip bench (chair?) that I'm using as a nightstand on my side of the bed. I started to sand it a bit and I actually like the tone of the wood and the light weathered look it has. (Side note: That book that you see resting there is The Perfectly Imperfect Home and it is excellent. I can't put it down. Deborah Needleman just has a way about her writing that brings you in and you just don't want to put it down. Highly recommend.)

I got a chance to recover the seat in the navy fabric this past weekend. Here is the before that shows the red corduroy that was on the bench when I bought it (via Instagram filter):

Freshly recovered...

I love having an area to rest my books, magazines, cell phone, monitor, etc.

This room is coming along...I should have some more updates for you soon.

We've got fireworks in the neighborhood tonight and then off to my MIL's tomorrow for some swimming and a BBQ. Enjoy the 4th!

  1. Holly, this looks great! And, I like that you aren't painting it -- I think the wood is beautiful and I'm sure it lends a nice warmth to the room :)

  4. It looks so pretty Holly and I love the wood! I also love the navy with the little peek of yellow from your bed--what a pretty and fresh combination. I know the rest of the room is going to be beautiful and I can't wait to see it! Happy Fourth of July!

  6. Fun! Love the way you took this piece and used it beyond its intended purpose :-) Agreed - that book is so hard to put down. Doesn't it make a lot of practical sense? Happy July 4th - I hope your day has been full of fun and laughter under the sun.

  10. People of a certain age may remember this as a 1950s telephone table. My mother "bought" one with S&H green stamps.

  11. Holly,
I just came across your page! I was glad to see that you mentioned what year the beautiful telephone table was from. I came across one yesterday at a vintage flea market and fell in love with it! But for the life of me, had a heck of a time finding our how old is was. I love the way this turned out. You did a fabulous job!
