Updates and Favorites In Da House

Here's an update on what's going on with us...{from the female perspective mostly - sorry honey}.

Me:
Guys, I'm back into a sporadic fitness routine and it feels really damn good. After a two year hiatus from the gym I can't believe how quickly I've gotten back into it (almost 2 months now). I've been enjoying spinning class and yoga class (I never ever thought I would love yoga, but I LOVE it - great instructor). We've been fitting in workouts whenever possible, and trying not to get down on ourselves when we miss (b/c it's impossible for us to go every day let's be honest).  I got a tip on the workout leggings above from a friend at work and they have changed my workout life - I can't believe I didn't get them sooner (Old Navy).

With the fitness routine comes a change in diet (as best we can), so healthier snacks and healthier meals.  I love the lightly salted Blue Diamond almonds. I don't love how they get all stuck in my teeth, but they're a great snack packed with protein.

And we love beer in our house so not giving that up, and I love the fall seasonal beers in particular. Steve loves the Dogfish Head Punkin and I've been enjoying Wolaver's Pumpkin Ale (organic from VT - healthy beer?). Gotta treat ourselves, right?

So clothes are fitting better and overall we're feeling healthier +++

Mini Me:
Sheila is just so darn cute but I feel like I say that all the time. Her language is exploding and her curiosity is so fun to watch. We were in a bit of a book slump but now we're back into books (hooray). I couldn't resist the "I Can Do It Myself" book last time we were at the bookstore. It was so her. She wants to do everything herself and she is so proud. She loves this book - we usually read it at least 2 or 3 times at bedtime.

And I can't forget the other favorite book "We Help Mommy" which is part of the Eloise Wilkins collection that you see above. We Help Mommy was one of my favorites growing up and this book was actually a shower gift from my Mom. Sheila loves We Help Mommy (page 119). The illustrations are really cute and classic. Either book would be a fun gift for someone.

And then the fall clothes...{sigh}. I think fall wardrobe for Sheila might be my favorite. I love the coziness of leggings or tights with a dress. The clothes just look more comfortable to me. I got this dress from Old Navy in 3 different colors - teal, navy, and red (for Christmas). It's adorable and Sheila really seemed to be comfy in it - I love sending her to school in cute comfy clothes.

Can't forget the staple skirts either...we got the skirt in denim and khaki corduroy (looks like it also comes in grey and red which our store didn't have). They have elastic in the back for comfort (some of them didn't which I thought was strange) - both the dress and skirt are $8.

So that's a quick update on us - we're busy. Thanks for sticking with me.

Have you discovered any favorites lately? Please share - I love getting new recommendations on things (and if you have toddlers please share favorite books - I would love some new book recs too).

  1. Have you tried the wasabi almonds? They are great and the good thing is that they are so spicy that you end up limiting the number you eat-they still get caught in the teeth though, lol.

  2. Costco sells Marcona Almonds and I love them. We are big micro brew fans in this house and living in Wisconsin, there is no shortage of options!

  3. I keep seeing rave reviews from cute items at Old Navy, got to get over there! Way to go on sticking with your workouts, you're an inspiration - if you can find time anyone can!

  4. Hey cute friend, had to come back and let you know I just returned from my hour long brisk walk. I was going to blow if off to work on my rug, but thanks to your inspiring post I laced up and headed out! Rio thanks you, too! :)

  5. Good for you for diving head first back into regular workouts! That's great, and I'm sure you are reaping the benefits by feeling more energetic and better overall. I love cocoa roast almonds by Emerald.....a little bit of sweet for my sweet tooth, but still "healthy". Also, Skinny Pop popcorn (comes in huge bags at Costco) is a low-calorie fav of mine right now!

  6. Too funny, I just bought that same Old Navy dress for Maura last week (in dark and light pink stripes) and she wore it over the weekend to a party with leggings! So cute! She is back into books now too. Her favorites this week are any of the Biscuit books (you know, those ones about the little yellow puppy) and this large Search and Find book all about things you can be when you grow up - like there's no words, its just a huge picture book with millions of things/people/places crammed into each page and labelled, so its fun to find everything.

So proud of you for sticking to your workouts and being relaxed about it!! That's awesome that you are eating better but still treating yourself to fun beer too, that's the way to do it:)

  7. Thanks for the yoga pant idea from Old navy! I have to try them! That's great that you have found a workout routine you love. I need to get back into running. I love it, but the starting part is always difficult! Have a great weekend. :)

  8. Good for you for keeping up with exercise! There's nothing like that feeling, is there? Thanks also for the book tips. I haven't read either and have already added them to my library list for our next trip.

  9. Good for you, Holly! It's hard when we slip out of the workout/healthy eating routine, but feels so good when there's a rhythm going.

I love Sheila's new outfits. Okay, I kind of miss those adorable toddlers dresses and tights (Neve is not a dress fan). There is nothing like those little legs in tights.

My kids (and my husband and I) loved the Sam books by Amy Hess and Anita Jeram. (Kiss Goodnight Sam, You Can do it, Sam, Don't You feel Well Sam?) The author has such a sweet and simple style, but all of the books have this warm, soothing imagery to me. I will read them as long as I can! Enjoy that Pumpkin Ale (my favorite fall beer)!

  10. You go girl! Great to hear that you are enjoying your workouts so much. Doesn't it make it so much easier to work out when you enjoy it??? It is especially motivating when you really start to notice your clothes fitting better and that you feel healthier! We've just started our 4th week of P90x. It is kicking my butt but I'm loving every minute of it :)

  11. Good for you and your new healthy routine. I just bought some workout pants from Old Navy too and I love them. I've gotta try that beer. Sounds delicious!

  12. We're making an effort in this household, too, and it feels so great! We can't stop marveling at the difference just a smoothie for breakie makes instead of toast, or cereal, or eggs - our usual options!
